Volunteer Opportunities

The committees in which parents can get involved are:

New Parent Event

Meet and greet event hosted by the MPO officers and board of directors.

New Family/Mentor Program: August - September

Pairs veteran families with new families to introduce them to other CBMS families and school happenings. Available for phone calls, answering questions, etc.

Carpool Helpers: August - May

Assist throughout the school year with morning drop-off to greet, open car doors and make sure children get into the school safely, Monday-Friday, 8:20-8:45.

Additional short-term volunteers needed at the Elementary for the first 2 full weeks and the week just Elementary for the first 2 full weeks and the week just after winter break while everyone gets acquainted with the process.

Room Parent and Field Trip Coordinators

Two (2)Room Parents per half year, per community. Directress in each community decides if room parent and field trip coordinator are one in the same or separate jobs. The Room Parents are responsible for helping in the community with special events and trips as necessary.The room parent is a very important contact person for the PAB and the various event chairpersons.

Wish Tree Gift Program: August - September

Plan and organize year long teacher classroom gift wish program.

Back To School Picnic

Organize & partially cater a potluck picnic, with opportunity for mentors to meet their buddy family.

Annual Fund

Volunteers to help fundraising chair kick-off and implement campaign to raise funds for CBMS: produce materials distribute AF information, make phone calls, write grants.

Garden Helpers: August – May

Provide each class with help in their gardens throughout the year. Also, assist with general grounds clean-up and miscellaneous repairs.

School T-Shirts: September

Obtain shirt orders, contact screenprinter, collect checks and forward to bookkeeping, and distribute t-shirts through student mailboxes.

Picture Days –September or October

Two (2) helpers per day to assist children from their classrooms to the photographer during school picture day

Adult Social Events

Plan and organize evening event for parents off campus.

Grandparents' Day

Day for grandparents to be invited into the communities to be shown around by their grandchildren after a brief orientation explaining the Montessori method. Evening event social. Volunteers needed to prepare materials and schedules in advance for evening event. Escorts needed night of the event.

Pictures/Yearbook: September - May

Plan and coordinate pictures/candids for use in yearbook and school website. Provide yearbook layout help with simple publisher provided software.

Campus Event Food Committee: August - May

Work with Chairperson to coordinate food provisions and set-up for several events: Montessori & Munchies (parent education series), snacks and/or lunches for teachers during parent/teacher conference weeks in November and April, monthly staff birthdays, snacks for Journey and Discovery in November.

Classroom Materials: Throughout the year

Provide as-needed support to prepare materials for community lessons: copying, cutting, laminating.

Thanksgiving Community Projects: September - November 17th

Each community will participate in an activity to raise awareness for others in need. Exact activity to be determined by each community in the fall. Culmination of projects will be November 21. Volunteers needed to assist classrooms with projects such as collecting canned goods, providing meals for home bound over holidays, visiting convalescent homes, raising money for a needy family, etc.

Staff Appreciation Events: December and May

Plan and coordinate activity, menu, volunteers, location selection and set-up for Teacher Appreciation events in December and May. Need food donations and volunteer servers. Events to be held just after school dismisses in the afternoon.

Family Event

Plan and coordinate school wide family theme event including location, food, activities and set up. Past themes have included Mardi Gras party, Polka Dot party and winter dance.

Spring Fling

Plan and coordinate Saturday afternoon carnival of fun, games and adventure on the CBMS campus. Activities include ticketed games, crafts, pony rides, food for sale, and classroom themed baskets for raffle fundraiser.

Earth Day Celebration: Friday, April

Work with teachers to coordinate Earth Day projects and activities: delegate chores, prep work, gather materials, plan crafts, and organize offsite charitable events.

End of Year Celebration and Ceremony: Date TBD
